Things to know BEFORE visiting Lima

  • Getting Around Lima – Whilst public transport is abundant and cheap in the capital (especially when using colectivos and the Metropolitano), at nighttime it’s best to use Ubers and registered Taxis for safety reasons. This is especially the case if heading out of the safer regions for the night such as Miraflores and Barranco. Be sure to learn more about how to stay safe when in Lima.
  • Eat Menu Ejecutivos – A local set menu, Peruvians swear by this daily given it’s so cheap and really fills you up. In some places, you’ll pay as little as $2 for two dishes and a drink. It’s also a great opportunity for trying different Peruvian cuisines, such as Papa a la Huancaina, Lomo Saltado and Chaufa.
  • Lima’s Unique Microclimate – Located between the giant Andes and the Pacific Ocean, Lima has an odd desert-like climate which means it hardly ever rains. It can get cold though (especially between June and August), so if you want warmer temperatures then it’s best to visit Lima between November and April.
